The technical specifications for Verizon Wireless’ fourth generation, long-term evolution (LTE) devices, have been released by the firm.
Verizon Wireless also says it is to host a web conference on 13 May to encourage device designers to consider developing handsets that will run on its 4G network. It hopes the conference will allow it to answer questions and provide details of the network and collect feedback.
Verizon Wireless’ vice president of open development, Tony Lewis, has spoken out about how transparency and clarity will be at the centre of the new project. He said, “hardware is the starting point, and Verizon Wireless is encouraging developers to get excited about designing innovative products and services the future requires.” Lewis added, “Verizon Wireless is fully committed to openness and transparency that brings companies and people together, harnessing the power of LTE over 700 MHz spectrum.”

They detail how the initial LTE devices will use the 4G bandwidth for data rather than for voice calls. It adds that devices will have to use IPv6 but will not have to run Veizon’s 3G CDMA network.
