Belkin beefs up its wireless routers

27.03.2010

Belkin has announced its Surf, Share, Play and Play Max range of wireless N routers which come with a range of apps and offer data transfer speeds that are 15 times faster then the current wireless G routers, as well as Wi-Fi range of up to 700 feet.

The Dual-Band N technology should make it faster to stream HD movies, and is good news for online gamers.

The top of the range Play Max Wireless Router is designed for streaming wireless media via the Music Mover app, while Music Labeller allows media to be tagged and the Daily DJ app allows a personalized playlist to be created.

The Play Max router offers 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, and two USB ports.

It comes with TorrentGenie which allows software, movies and music to be downloaded without a computer turned on.

Play Max also features a Bit Boost app which prioritises traffic on the network according to the user’s preference and is priced at £99.99.

Next down the range is the Play Wireless Router, which is also a dual band router and offers the same apps as Play Max but comes with just one USB port for external storage and printers, and no UPnP server.

The Play Router is priced at £79.99.

Next in line is the Share Wireless Router, priced at £69.99, which offers a 2.4GHz network and one USB port.

Share offers just two apps; the Memory Safe automatic back-up app and Print Genie which allows a printer to be shared by all computers on the network.

The Surf Wireless Router is a basic router, priced at £49.99, and offers only a 2.4GHz network so is not so good for video.

The only app available with the Surf is the self-healing app which detects and resolves network problems and runs routine maintenance scans.

All of the models come with or without modem, which costs an extra £20.

The range will be available next month in the US, but won’t be available in Europe until May.
